Sen. Salazar's Statement on Obama National Security Team

DENVER, CO – Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar made the following statement regarding President-elect Obama’s announcement of his national security team:

“I commend President-elect Obama for assembling a tough, smart, and experienced national security team. I am confident that this bipartisan team will help us confront the threats we face with the full force of our military, diplomatic, political, and economic power. I look forward to working with them and with President-elect Obama to strengthen our nation’s defenses, defeat those who wish us harm, and restore America’s standing in the world.

“The horrors that the world witnessed in India over the last few days are a stark reminder of the threats that terrorists and extremists continue to pose to innocent people around the world – the U.S. must remain vigilant in protecting our homeland and defending our national security interests.”

President-elect Obama has selected Robert Gates to remain as Secretary of Defense, Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Eric Holder as Attorney General, Susan Rice as Ambassador to the United Nations and General Jim Jones as National Security Adviser.
