Sen. Salazar Requests Hearing on Consensus U.S. District Court Nominees

DENVER, CO – Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar asked the Senate Judiciary Committee to consider the U.S. District Court nominations of Christine Arguello and Gregory Goldberg in a nominations hearing that has been scheduled for next week.

Ms. Arguello and Mr. Goldberg were nominated by President Bush to fill two of three vacancies on the U.S. District Court in Colorado. Both Ms. Arguello and Mr. Goldberg were recommended to the White House by Senator Salazar and Senator Wayne Allard. Sen. Salazar’s recommendations were based on the advice of the bipartisan Judicial Nominations Advisory Commission that he convened in January to review applications for the vacancies on the U.S. District Court.

Sen. Salazar’s letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee can be seen here. The text is below.

Dear Senators Leahy and Specter:

I hereby return the blue slips for Gregory Goldberg and Christine Arguello stating my approval of their nominations by President Bush to be United States District Court Judges for the District of Colorado. Both individuals were recommended to me by a distinguished, bipartisan merit selection judicial advisory commission that I established to evaluate potential nominees.

I am hopeful that we can gain approval for these nominations despite the lateness of their submission to the Senate by the White House and the very short time left on the legislative calendar for the 110th Congress. I ask that they be included in the upcoming nominations hearing to be held next week by the Judiciary Committee.

Thank you very much for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely,

Ken Salazar
United States Senator
