Sen. Salazar: 'President Bush's Veto of the Farm Bill is an Insult to Rural America and Would Hurt All Those Who Benefit From the Food Our Farmers Provide'

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, United States Senator Ken Salazar released the following statement after hearing that President Bush vetoed the 2008 Farm Bill.

“President Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill is an insult to rural America and would hurt the millions of Americans who benefit from the food our nation’s farmers provide. The bill we passed overwhelmingly in both the House and Senate had broad bipartisan support because of important provisions such as the common sense commodity reforms, renewable energy investments and improvements in vital nutrition programs. This bill is essential to every single American, whether they grow the food we eat or rely on it being available for their dinner tables. I believe the President’s action is irresponsible and I will work with my colleagues to override the veto. We must support and invest in rural communities, and ensure that families across the country can continue to have access to an abundant, healthy, and safe food supply.”
