Sen. Salazar Statement on 'Cover the Uninsured Week'

WASHINGTON, DC – This week is recognized as ‘Cover the Uninsured Week’, which highlights America’s current heath care crisis that has left over 47 million Americans without health insurance. With over 780,000 people uninsured in Colorado – 180,000 being children – Senator Salazar will continue his work on the Senate Finance Committee to ensure that all Coloradans have access to affordable and quality health care.

“‘Cover the Uninsured Week’ shines a light on the true state of health care in America and how far we have yet to go in order to ensure access to quality and affordable care for all Americans. While we live in a country that leads the world in cutting-edge medical research and treatment, it is disheartening to know that there are over 47 million people – and over 8 million children – that remain uninsured in our nation.

“The cost of health insurance is rapidly outpacing income growth, putting affordable health care coverage out of reach for so many people. This means that hard-working families are unable to obtain basic coverage, despite the fact that they play by the rules. One-third of Colorado’s uninsured hold full-time jobs but because the cost of health care continues to skyrocket, they remain uninsured. We must continue to work together in Congress to find common ground to create sensible policies that provide quality and affordable coverage for all Americans.”
