Sen. Salazar Helps Colorado Company Announce Major Renewable BioDiesel Fuel Refining Capacity Expansion/Previews this Week’s Renewable Energy Summit

Denver, CO – Senator Salazar, at a press conference at BioEnergy of Colorado, the state’s largest biodiesel refinery, helped announce a 50 percent expansion of Colorado’s biodiesel refining capacity. Senator Salazar also previewed his upcoming Renewable Energy Summit featuring leading energy experts, farmers and business leaders to raise awareness about the potential and viability of renewable energy. Senator Salazar believes there is a great and immediate potential for the production of renewable energy through wind, solar and biofuel production in Colorado and the United States.

Today’s press conference highlighted the impact renewable fuels have on Colorado businesses, farmers and consumers. BioEnergy’s end product is Mountain Gold biodiesel which is made from domestically grown crops, processed by Colorado labor in a Colorado plant that would otherwise stand empty and unused. Biodiesel is a renewable fuel made from domestic agricultural crops including soybeans, corn and canola and can be used in any diesel motor car, truck or bus.

“Renewable fuels like the biodiesel being produced here today form the cornerstone of our Nation’s future energy independence,” said Senator Salazar. “Renewable biofuels burn cleaner than petroleum based fuels and can be produced here in the United States from domestically grown crops using domestic workers. They are a win, win, win and we need to promote their usage and that is what we will discuss this Wednesday at the renewable energy summit.”

Senator Salazar was joined by BioEnergy of Colorado’s founding investor, Tom Foley, at the announcement. “We’d like to thank Senator Salazar for participating with us today and for leading the charge in Washington to emphasize the need for our Nation to further the use of biofuels as an alternative energy source,” said Foley. Biodiesel reduces emissions, is better for the air we breath, is non-toxic and biodegradable and produces local economic growth, we believe all these things add up to a very bright future.”
