Sen. Salazar statement on Ms. Miers announcement today

Washington, D.C. – United States Senator Ken Salazar released the following statement in response to Ms. Harriet Miers’ announcement that she is withdrawing as a nominee for Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court.

“Last week I met with Ms. Miers. I respect her decision and her professional achievements. I do believe it is important for the Senate to have access to information about a nominee so we can make an informed consent.”

“As the President considers another nominee I hope he selects someone who has demonstrated professional excellence as a lawyer or judge and who can command broad support in the Senate, be fair and impartial, uphold the rule of law and bring diversity to the bench.”

“In response to Ms. Miers’ announcement I hope the President chooses to consult with the Senate to select a nominee who will best serve the Supreme Court and our Nation.”
