SEN. SALAZAR REMINDS DEFENSE DEPARTMENT OF COMMITMENT TO FULLY FUND PUEBLO CHEMICAL DEPOT DISPOSAL

Denver, CO – United States Senator Ken Salazar joined Senators Wayne Allard (R-CO), Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Jim Bunning (R-KY) in sending a letter today to Under Secretary of Defense Kenneth Krieg reminding him that the Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives (ACWA) Program is to be fully funded and placed on a path toward safe and immediate disposal of the chemical weapons. The letter was sent by the Senators after reports that the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) was deliberating holding the ACWA budget level to “caretaker status” rather than toward safe and immediate disposal.

“My concern remains with the safety of the residents of Pueblo – we must be vigilant to ensure that the safe and immediate disposal of these chemical weapons moves forward,” said Senator Salazar. “Enough is enough, the people of Pueblo deserve no less.”
