Shelby Announces $135,671 for Cullman County Fire Departments

December 19, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $116,440 to Good Hope Fire Rescue and HAZMAT and $19,231 to West Point Volunteer Fire Department.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

“Firefighters are in the field every day protecting our citizens,” said Shelby. “For this reason, we must ensure that our first responders have the most up-to-date equipment available. This funding will help the Good Hope Fire Rescue and HAZMAT and West Point Volunteer Fire Department improve their operations and safety programs.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $500 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
