Shelby Announces New Veterans Clinic for Monroe County

December 5, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs will establish a new Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Monroe County.  The CBOC will improve access for high priority enrolled veterans in rural areas to primary and specialty care.

“Ensuring our nation’s veterans have access to quality health care remains my priority,” said Shelby. “The Department of Veterans Affairs has recognized the importance of establishing a community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Monroe County to serve the region’s veteran population and improve their access to care.  The importance of quality, community-based care cannot be underestimated and the CBOC will improve access to primary and specialty care for veterans in southwest Alabama.”

The CBOC is scheduled to be activated in fiscal year 2010.
