Bunning Comments On CTL Plant Being Built In West Virginia

Washington, DC
Tuesday, December 9, 2008

U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today commented on the reports that TransGas Development Systems will be building a $3 billion coal-to-liquids plant in Mingo County, West Virginia. Mingo County borders the Kentucky counties of Pike and Martin. TransGas is in partnership to build a similar facility in Western Kentucky. The plant being built in West Virginia will not impact those plans.

"Coal-to-Liquids technology has taken a giant leap forward today by the announcement of TransGas that it will be building a state-of-the-art CTL plant just over the border in West Virginia," said Bunning. "Although not in Kentucky, the plant will be a jobs creator for the entire region. It is estimated 3,000 jobs will be created for the construction of the plant, and 200 full time jobs once the plant is completed. 3 million tons of coal will be used annually to create 6.5 million barrels of gasoline here in Kentucky’s backyard and not in the Middle East."
