Washington-- Senator Evan Bayh released the following statement tonight on the President’s State of the Union address:

“This is an important moment for our country. Our economy is slowing down, energy costs are too high, health care costs are skyrocketing, a college degree is becoming out of reach for middle class Americans, and millions continue to be at risk of losing their homes.

“Tonight the President outlined several ideas for what the nation needs in these tough times. His remarks tonight, though, need to be backed up with concrete actions to help Americans meet the challenges they face in their daily lives.

“In recent days, the President has come together with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to agree on a much-needed tax relief for middle class Americans to give our economy a boost that it sorely needs. I hope this approach will become habit-forming, and we’ll see a continuing desire to come together to find common ground and common-sense solutions to tackle the most pressing issues facing our nation.”
