Snowe Praises GSA’s Alliant Small Business Contract Awards
Potential for $15 billion in contracting awards to small businesses
December 19, 2008
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship Ranking Member Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) today praised the General Services Administration (GSA) for awarding 72 small businesses -- 10 more companies than in the initial award – a portion of its Alliant Small Business contract, a multi-million dollar information technology (IT) contract. The overall Alliant contract is worth an estimated $15 billion over the next 10 years.
"I am pleased to see that the GSA awarded this contract just in time to help small businesses begin revitalizing our economy," said Senator Snowe. "This contract will assist Federal agencies in reaching their government-wide small business contracting goals, while providing small firms with further opportunities to grow their enterprises in the long term."
The GSA made its initial Alliant Small Business Contract award on December 17, 2007, but GSA officials pulled back its original 62 awards in April, after the awards of its larger business contract were revoked by the Court of Federal Claims in March. In May, Senator Snowe sent a letter to then GSA Acting Administrator David Bibb requesting swiftness and caution during its re-evaluation process.
