ROCKEFELLER REACTS TO PRESIDENT-ELECT'S NOMINATION OF FORMER SENATOR TOM DASCHLE TO BE U.S. SECRETARY OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

Washington, DC – Senator Jay Rockefeller, Chairman of the Finance Subcommittee on Health Care, issued the following statement regarding President-elect Obama’s nomination of former Senate Majority Leader, Tom Daschle (D-ND) to be the nation’s 21st Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Tom Daschle is an incredible public servant and someone who shares my passion and commitment to improving and expanding health care coverage and making it more affordable for all Americans – especially the 46 million Americans without any coverage at all. There is no one better qualified to shepherd through President-elect Obama’s ambitious plans for health care reform.

“I look forward to working immediately with Secretary-designee Daschle to provide health care for every American, reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program, develop a viable long-term care system, strengthen and protect Medicare and Medicaid, and to reverse eight years of misguided Bush Administration health care policies.”
