ROCKEFELLER JOINS AT&T TO CELEBRATE JOBS FOR WEST VIRGINIA

~Senator announced 200 highly-skilled telecommunications jobs last year~

Wheeling, W.Va. – Senator Jay Rockefeller today joined representatives from AT&T, Governor Joe Manchin and local officials for the grand opening of AT&T’s new customer service center at the Highlands, which will employ 200 people. Rockefeller noted how important new jobs are during the nation’s trying economic times.

“West Virginia is proving that we’re doing something right here today. Bringing new jobs like this is the single best way to improve our economy,” Rockefeller said. “People are struggling right now. They’re worried about paying their bills, sending their kids to college, and paying for health care. We need real solutions – and jobs like these are the key.”

“Wireless is AT&T’s most powerful growth engine right now,” Rockefeller said. “Since these jobs are directly linked to the fast-growing wireless sector, this means better job security for the people who will work here. It also means that as wireless technology evolves, West Virginia will be a central part of AT&T’s business future.”

Rockefeller has been fighting for AT&T to bring jobs back to West Virginia for more than four years. In February of last year, he met with AT&T officials to discuss the possibility of this customer service center, and urged them to bring the highest-skilled jobs to the state.

The grand opening took place today at the Highlands, with remarks from Senator Rockefeller; Governor Manchin; Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets; Tim McCormick of the Ohio County Commission; and Don Rigby, Executive Director of the Regional Economic Development Partnership. Their remarks were followed by a ribbon-cutting for the new building.
