Congresswoman Laura Richardson to Host CBCF Issue Forum with Whoopi Goldberg

WASHINGTON Whoopi Goldberg, Oscar, Grammy, Tony, Emmy-award winning actress, will be a special guest panelist on Congresswoman Laura Richardson’s Issue Forum “Image of Blacks in America: Is it Our Image or Theirs?"—part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference on Friday, September 26th, Washington D.C. Convention Center from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Other guests include Dr. Robin L. Smith, licensed psychologist and national T.V. personality; Alfred Liggins III, president and CEO of Radio One; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, president of Bennett College for Women; and Dr. Eliot F. Battle Jr., founder and director of Cultura Cosmetic Medical Spa.

Congresswoman Richardson said, “It is my honor to host Ms. Whoopi Goldberg as we discuss the changing perception and image of African Americans in today’s ever-changing world. For over 100 years, African Americans have struggled to define themselves and not be defined by others. The discussion with Ms. Goldberg and conference participants will be frank, honest, informative and challenging.”

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Caucus is the largest political conference in the country for members of Congress and other diverse organizations to plan, analyze and review legislative issues and concerns impacting African Americans.

Congresswoman Richardson’s Issue Forum will utilize a “talk show” format in order to open the dialogue around issues of image that have historically been negative for African Americans.

Whoopi Goldberg became the 2nd African American woman to win an Oscar for Acting and is one of only 13 people to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award, including a Daytime Emmy Award.
