Senator Feinstein Announces Launch of Inaugural Website

Washington, DC - The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has launched a website to provide up-to-date information about the January 20, 2009 Presidential Inauguration and related ceremonies along with historical information and photos of inaugurals past, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the committee chairman, announced today.

The website can be found at: http://inaugural.senate.gov

"The inauguration of a new president is one of the most solemn and ceremonial occasions in our nation's history. People from all over the country come to Washington to mark the peaceful transition from one Administration to another," said Senator Feinstein. "This website is meant to provide people with useful information about the swearing-in ceremony, parade and other inaugural events."

The website also includes information about obtaining tickets to the historic event, precedents set at past inaugural ceremonies and a countdown clock to alert visitors how many days are left until Inauguration Day.

  • A comprehensive history section to learn everything from what presidents wore to what the weather was like from past inaugurations, including:
    • Which president's inaugural ceremony was the first to be reported by telegraph;
    • Which president delivered the longest inaugural address;
    • Which president was the first to ride to and from his inauguration in an automobile;
  • Chronology of past inaugurals and when and precisely where they took place;
