12.13.07 - Welch announces staff promotions, new hires

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Peter Welch today announced the promotion and hiring of new staff in his Vermont and Washington, D.C. offices.

"I have been fortunate to assemble a strong team of experienced and dedicated staff who are working hard on behalf of Vermonters every day. These promotions are well deserved and I am particularly pleased that Victoria Jones and Shayla Livingston have joined our team," said Welch.

Welch recently promoted three staff members and made the two new hires:

Calvin Garner (DC office - legislative correspondent/press aide) previously served as staff assistant/press aide for Welch and was deputy communications director for Welch for Congress. Garner was born in Bennington, VT and is a graduate of Middlebury College.

Victoria Jones (VT office - staff assistant), was previously an educator at the Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington. Jones was an environmental studies major at the University of Vermont's Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and lives in Winooski, VT.

Shayla Livingston (DC office - staff assistant), a native of Sharon, VT, was a government major at Smith College. Before serving as an intern for Welch in Washington, D.C, Livingston worked as a research translator in South America.

Chesley Thurber (DC office - legislative assistant) has served as legislative correspondent for Welch. Previously, Thurber worked as the aide to the President Pro Tem of the Vermont Senate, as a policy specialist for the Vermont Medical Society, and as legislative assistant for the United Parcel Service. Thurber graduated from Middlebury College.

Rachel Seelig (VT office - caseworker) a native of East Calais, served as staff assistant for Welch, was a county field organizer for the Vermont Democratic Party, and a tutor for AmeriCorps in Washington state. Seelig is a graduate of Wheaton College and lives in Burlington.
