LIEBERMAN COMMENTS ON COURT’S REJECTION OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURERS’ CHALLENGE TO LOBBYING REFORM LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., issued the following statement Friday after the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia rejected the National Association of Manufacturers’ challenge to a key provision of the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, enacted by Congress in 2007.

“Today the court confirmed that the law enacted by Congress furthers the compelling interest of letting the American public know who is being hired to influence Congress, who is putting up the money, and how much they are putting up. Today’s ruling clears the way for greater transparency on the activities of the ever growing number of coalitions and associations that lobby in the halls of Congress.”
