New passport rules effective 2007 require that all U.S. citizens traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda must have a valid passport. The new rules have increased the time it takes for passport applications to be processed and travelers are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible.
Standard applications may take up to 16 weeks and expedited applications may take three to six weeks.
