Cochran, Lott Announce $18 Million in Federal Recovery Funds Awarded for Harrison, Stone, Hancock, Pearl River Counties, Cities of Pascagoula, Bay St. Louis and MEMA

WASHINGTON – Federal funding totaling more than $18 million is approved for post-hurricane road repair, school reconstruction and debris removal in three coastal counties, two coastal municipalities and also awarded is reimbursement funds for Mississippi Emergency Management Agency directed emergency protective measures, U.S. Senators Trent Lott and Thad Cochran said today.  The individual grants are for expenses incurred by these entities following Hurricane Katrina.

            “These are counties and cities on the front line of Katrina’s onslaught, and which are still working hard to recover,” Senator Lott said.  “This funding will certainly help continue our recovery and renewal process, and our state’s Congressional delegation will continue working vigorously to ensure Mississippians get the federal support we need to complete our state’s revival.”

            Senator Cochran stated: “I am pleased that these federal funds have been approved for the towns and counties that are working to rebuild and recover from the damages caused by Katrina. Debris removal and infrastructure repairs have been expensive but essential as we continue to make progress in the rebirth of a vibrant and strong Gulf Coast region.”

            The funds will be administered through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  Federal shares of today’s awards include:
