Dear Friends:

During the early days of June, I met with Governor Daniels and other state and local officials to plan how we could best bring emergency aid and comfort to the thousands of Hoosiers suddenly overwhelmed by violent storms and flood conditions.  My staff in Indiana has continued to tour sites affected by the storms and meet with local, state and federal officials at Disaster Recovery Centers. Information on these activities and assistance available to Hoosiers is included in the Feature Article and News for Hoosiers sections of this Lugar Letter.

I enjoyed two additional trips to Indiana this month, including the opportunity to visit with constituents in our Northeast Indiana Community Service Center in Fort Wayne. I especially want to thank Lutheran Hospital and St. Joseph Home Care for partnering with our community service center to offer free health screenings including cholesterol tests, bone density heel scans, and blood pressure checks on June 21-22. We had more than 80 participants and look forward to hosting additional health screenings in the future.

For the moment, I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful Fourth of July celebration.  Thank you, as always, for your thoughtful comments and staying closely in touch.

Sincerely,

Dick Lugar
