Washington, Jul 3, 2008 - After this morning’s release of the U.S. Labor Department’s monthly employment report, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement:

“Today’s report is the clearest evidence yet of the destructive impact the Democrats’ economic policies are having on American jobs.  Since taking the Majority 18 months ago, Democrats have refused to increase production of American energy, costing our economy jobs and sending gas prices soaring.  They have saddled stressed-out taxpayers with the largest tax hike in American history, putting even more pressure on families and small businesses.  And they’ve stood flat-footed while corrupt trial lawyers have run rampant with job-killing lawsuits against American employers, driving jobs overseas and appeasing their big donors by refusing to even hold hearings on evidence of industry-wide corruption in the trial lawyer business.

“House Republicans are prepared to lead where the Democratic Majority has utterly failed.  We have introduced a comprehensive ‘all of the above’ plan to help reduce gas prices by unlocking America’s natural energy resources, encouraging greater conservation and efficiency, and promote the use of nuclear energy and alternative fuels.  We have unveiled a bold economic agenda to stop the Democrats’ tax increase, cut wasteful Washington pork, and create new jobs.  And later this month, we will roll out health care reforms that will expand access to quality and affordable care, put patients and doctors back in charge, and promote individual freedom.  It is well past time for Democrats end their harmful economic policies and work with House Republicans on behalf of the American people.”
