Sessions Comments on ALS Registry Act
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today regarding the Senate’s passage of S. 1382, the ALS Registry Act:
“I am pleased that the Senate today unanimously approved legislation that I have co-sponsored to create a national ALS registry,” Sessions said. “An important step toward developing better treatment options for ALS patients is to improve our understanding of the number and types of cases, the demographics most affected by the disease, and the potential causes. The legislation approved today would create a system to collect that data, and would establish a national registry to make the information available to researchers. The bill’s passage represents a step in the right direction for ALS patients and their families, and I am optimistic that the registry will be of assistance to researchers who are working hard every day to find a cure. I urge the U.S. House of Representatives to move quickly to approve the legislation so that President Bush can sign it into law.”
