Sessions Comments on the NATO Ministerial Conference in Bucharest
Thursday, April 3, 2008
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today regarding the NATO Ministerial Conference in Bucharest:
“I am pleased that the NATO Conference in Bucharest has already proven so productive. The NATO declaration issued this morning sends a strong message of support for our plans to build the Third Site in Europe. NATO’s declaration, coupled with our completion of a basing agreement with the Czech Republic hours later, makes this a historic day for transatlantic defense cooperation. As a long-time advocate of missile defense I could not be happier. I am also delighted that the ground-based interceptors scheduled to be stationed in Poland as part of the Third Site will be built by the MDA/Boeing team in Huntsville, AL. This is another example of how Huntsville is playing a central role in bringing peace and stability to the world. I look forward to seeing an agreement with Poland signed in the near future, and expect that Congress will not only ratify these agreements expeditiously, but also fully fund their implementation.”
