Sen. Sessions Comments on the Resignation of Attorney General Gonzales
Monday, August 27, 2007
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today regarding the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:
“Mr. Gonzales is a patriotic American who has dedicated over a decade of his life to the service of his country. The Department of Justice is a critical part of our government which affects the daily lives of millions of Americans. It is imperative that the public have a fundamental confidence in its management and trust in its effectiveness. Mr. Gonzales may have lacked the necessary experience to be an effective leader of the more than 90,000 Department of Justice employees. Moving forward, the focus should be on what is best for the Department. I am hopeful that President Bush will put forth a strong nominee with the experience and personal characteristics necessary to lead the Department of Justice in a manner that restores the public’s confidence.”
