Transportation
History shows that our nation's strength and prosperity depends on its ability to move people and products safety, swiftly, and affordably. Senator Dodd believes that investments in good roads, rails, buses, and air travel can create jobs, reduce pollution, and put our state and nation on the path to a brighter future and better quality of life for all.

In Connecticut, Sen. Dodd has worked to secure approximately $2.5 billion for highway, rail, bus, and ferry improvements over the next four years in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA). This level of funding represented a 19% increase in highway funding and a 34% increase in transit funding over previous levels. He has also supported transportation improvements in other states throughout the country because he believes that a truly national transportation network benefits each and every state. He supports efforts to improve the efficiency of cars and trucks, and to develop alternative fuels in order to reduce the transportation costs of families and businesses. In addition, he has introduced legislation to invest in new and emerging transportation innovations, which will keep our economy strong now and into the future.
