Reid Statement on New Unemployment Numbers in Nevada

December 19, 2008

Searchlight, NV – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today released the following statement on news that Nevada’s unemployment rate increased to 8 percent in November:

“This is terrible news for Nevada families, especially during the holiday season.  My thoughts are with those who lost their jobs.

“Today’s news underscores the importance of the work Congress needs to do when it reconvenes in January.  Now is not the time to cast blame for what has led to this situation, this is a time to look to the future.  That is why earlier this week, I laid out economic priorities for Peter Orszag, Director Designee of the Office of Management and Budget, which will help Nevada’s families and strengthen our economy by creating jobs through investments in energy and infrastructure, preserving state services and keeping people in their homes.

“I look forward to working with President-elect Obama and the new Congress on an economic recovery package that will help meet these challenges and put Nevada and the nation back on the right track.”
