DAVIS ANNOUNCES GRANT TO BLOOMINGDALE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

April 14, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis today announced that Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $388,930 for the hiring of new employees. The grant is administered through the Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program which is a funding initiative designed to strengthen the Nation’s ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards.  Davis issued the following statement:

This grant will help the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department hire more staff in order to assure that the community is safe at all times of day,” said Davis.  “The grant will go a long way to assure that there is more ability for Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department to better serve the public in emergency situations

Keeping First District Tennesseans is a definite priority and this grant is a step in that direction,” Davis added.

The goal of any SAFER grant is to enhance the ability of grantees to attain and maintain 24-hour staffing and to assure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
