Rosa Speaks on Her Bill H.R. 758 the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act (H.R. 758), introduced by Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3). The legislation has 222 bipartisan cosponsors in the House and Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) have introduced companion legislation, which has 19 cosponsors. Additionally, a petition at myLifetime.com calling for passage of the bill has been signed nearly 23 million times. It is also supported by high profile organizations, including BreastCancer.org, Susan G. Komen, CT Breast Cancer Coalition Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. Watch Video

On January 20, 2008, President-elect Barack Obama will be swore-in as our nation’s 44th President. This is a truly historic milestone. Officials in Washington are preparing for an unprecedented number of Americans to visit the nation’s Capitol to witness President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration. The residents of Connecticut’s 3rd congressional district are equally interested in witnessing history as thousands of constituents have contacted my office to request inauguration tickets.

Inauguration tickets for the grounds of the U.S. Capitol are extremely limited. My office, as with each Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, will receive only 198 tickets to the swearing-in. My office has received requests for nearly 5,000 tickets. In an effort to be as fair as possible, my office held a lottery the week of December 22nd to select constituents to receive a limited number of inauguration tickets. We have contacted individuals who will receive tickets.

While only a very limited of number of tickets to the swearing-in ceremony are available, you can attend the Inaugural festivities without a ticket. The entire length of the National Mall will be opened to the public so that more people than ever before will be able to watch and hear President-elect Obama’s swearing-in and speech. You can also attend the Inaugural Parade, which will take the newly sworn-in President Obama from the U.S. Capitol to the White House, without a ticket.
