Congressman Bartlett Supports Temporary IRA Distribution Suspension Act
Congressman Bartlett was one of the first to co-sponsor HR 7277, Temporary IRA Distribution Suspension Act. If this bill were timely passed, senior citizens would not have to take their mandatory distribution for the period covering January 1, 2008-December 31, 2009.
Congressman Bartlett has joined with other Congressional leaders to call for a vote on HR 7277 as well as asking President Bush to administratively suspend IRA distributions for tax year 2008.
Congressman Bartlett also supported HR 7327 which is similar to HR 7277 but only covers tax year 2009. This bill passed both the House and the Senate and is awaiting President Bush’s signature to become law.
As of December 19, there is no suspension of mandatory IRA distributions.
