Lieberman Statement on Situation in Gaza

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today issued the following statement regarding the situation in Gaza:

“Over the course of this past year, Israel has endured bombardment by more than 2,900 terrorist rockets and mortar shells, fired indiscriminately and unilaterally by Hamas, with the intention of murdering innocent civilians. After repeated warnings, Israel is now exercising its legitimate right of self-defense to stop these terrorist acts. There should be no doubt that responsibility for the violence we see now falls squarely on Hamas, nor should there be any suggestion of moral equivalency between terrorist acts that target civilians, on the one hand, and legitimate military action that seeks to end these attacks, on the other. The sooner that Hamas abandons its unilateral campaign of terror against Israel, the sooner peace can be restored.”
