Senator Carper visits the Lewes Fire Department December 15, 2008 — Lewes
Senator Carper visited the Lewes Fire Department to see their new 30-foot fire rescue boat, which was purchased, in part, through a federal grant. The Lewes Fire Department received a Department of Homeland Security grant in the amount of $144,563 through the Port Security Grant Program. The grant funds will be used to equip the boat with necessary electronics, rescue equipment, and docking needs.

Senator Carper visited Payless Shoes in Concord Mall to get a first-hand look at a holiday program to give $1 million in free shoes to families in need. Payless is giving nearly 67,000 $15 gift coupons redeemable through Jan. 31, 2009, towards a new pair of kids' shoes at any of the more than 3,600 stores across the United States. In Delaware, the Ministry of Caring and Brandywine Counseling are helping to carry out the distribution. It is estimated that 75 families will be served.
Senator Carper talks about foreclosure assistance December 12, 2008 — Dover
Senator Carper joined Lt. Gov. John Carney, Dover Mayor Carlton Carey, DSHA Director Saundra Johnson and others at a Federal Home Loan Bank Foreclosure Prevention event sponsored by Lt. Gov. Carney's Task Force on Foreclosure. Senator Carper talked specifically about the national perspective on foreclosures, national data and trends, Congress' role in addressing the issue, and the need for personal outreach. The purpose of the event wass to "influence the influencers" within our community who could provide assistance to fellow community members who may or will be facing a foreclosure crisis. The "Relief Pitchers" is a summit to learn more about specific ways you can help prevent foreclosures for home-owners right in your own backyard.
Senator Carper celebrates the expansion of I-95 December 2, 2008
Senator Carper helped celebrate the completion of the I-95 Fifth Lane Project. He joined DelDOT Secretary Carolann Wicks, Governor Minner, and Congressman Castle for this celebration.
