Estimates of Peak Underground Working Gas Storage Capacity in the United States
This special report provides national and regional updates to estimates for U.S. aggregate natural gas storage capacity as of mid-2008. The estimates for national and regional peak capacity are based on the repored maximum reported working gas volumes for individual active facilities from January 2003 through May 2008. U.S. Natural Gas Storage and The Global LNG Market
U.S. natural gas storage operators are in a good position to take advantage of growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade. With the largest storage capacity in the world, the United States has the capability to import LNG in the summer for winter peak use. The normal falloff in global natural gas demand during the summer frees up some LNG supplies, but storage operators in many countries compete for this gas. The ability of U.S. operators to attract LNG supplies depends on the relative prices in the United States and other countries. At the same time, LNG imports compete with domestic supplies. U.S. Storage Drawdown Analysis Report
This report examines contract terms that require owners of natural gas in storage to reduce their holdings of working gas to specified levels by certain dates or risk incurring penalties. If they were sufficiently restrictive, such constraints could result in the introduction of significant natural gas volumes into the market toward the end of the heating season. Although many tariffs or service agreements include these restrictions, they are not pervasive and their impact may be less than previously expected. Natural Gas Year-In-Review 2007
This report provides an overview of the natural gas industry and markets in 2007 with special focus on the first complete set of supply and disposition data for 2007 from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The analysis focuses on natural gas end-use consumption trends, natural gas prices, imports and exports of pipeline and liquefied natural gas, the above-average storage inventories in 2007, as well as pipeline expansions during the year. Estimate of Maximum Underground Working Gas Storage Capacity in the United States: 2007 Update
This special report provides an update to an estimate for U.S. aggregate natural gas storage capacity that was released in 2006. Although the concept of maximum capacity seems quite straightforward, there are numerous issues that preclude the determination of a definitive maximum volume. The report presents three alternative estimates for maximum capacity. Categories: Storage (Released, 10/24/2007, pdf format)
U.S. Weekly Natural Gas Storage Data

Topics discussed include an overview of storage, a chronology of events for the weekly data project, issues related to the WNGSR, data performance, the role of the weekly data. Categories: Storage, Weekly Data (Released, 9/27/2007, ppt format)
Natural Gas Year-In-Review 2006
This is a special report that provides an overview of the natural gas industry and markets in 2006 with special focus on the first complete set of supply and disposition data for 2006 from the Energy Information Administration. Topics discussed include natural gas end-use consumption trends, effects of the 2005 hurricanes on offshore production, imports and exports of pipeline and liquefied natural gas, and the above-average storage inventories in 2006. U.S. Underground Natural Gas Storage Developments: 1998-2005
This report examines the current status of the underground natural gas storage sector in the United States and how it has changed since 1998, particularly in regards to deliverability from storage, working gas capacity, ownership, and operational capabilities. It also includes a discussion and an analysis of underground natural gas storage expansions in 2005 and an examination of storage development proposed for the next several years.

Withdrawals from Working Natural Gas Stocks During Summer 2006
This report examines the net withdrawals of 7 and 12 billion cubic feet (Bcf) during the weeks ending July 21, 2006, and August 4, 2006 reported in the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report. These summer-time withdrawals are notable because they marked the first two times that working natural gas stocks experienced a weekly net decline during the months of May through September in the 12-year history of the weekly stocks data. The report finds that a combination of electricity and fuel market developments accounts for the atypical working natural gas inventory behavior, including above-normal levels of working gas stocks, increased gas-fired electric generation, extremely hot temperatures in the Lower-48 States, and backwardation in the near-month natural gas futures contract.

EIA The Northeast Natural Gas Market in 2030
LNG imports have grown substantially in recent years and they are expected to grow sevenfold by 2030. A review of the industry and infrastructure in the Northeast shows a region with limited indigenous production, so the region relies on flows into the area for most of the natural gas it consumes. A key source of supply is the LNG import terminal located in Everett, Massachusetts, which provides about 20 percent of regional supply. The United States needs additional LNG imports to meet future natural gas demand, however, building new LNG terminals in the Northeast or elsewhere involves a number of tradeoffs that will depend on energy markets and local acceptance. Estimates of Maximum Underground Working Gas Storage Capacity in the United States
This report examines the aggregate maximum capacity for U.S. natural gas storage. Although the concept of maximum capacity seems quite straightforward, there are numerous issues that preclude the determination of a definitive maximum volume. The report presents three alternative estimates for maximum capacity, indicating appropriate caveats for each. It suggests that a conservative estimate of maximum capacity is the sum of non-coincident peak volumes over all facilities during 2000-2004. (Published, 09/19/2006, pdf format )
