About Texas Regional Entity

Texas Regional Entity

Texas RE is a functionally independent division of ERCOT. As mandated by the delegation agreement with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Texas RE performs the regional entity functions described in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for the ERCOT region. The delegation agreement was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Texas RE is authorized by NERC to develop, monitor, assess, and enforce compliance with NERC reliability standards within the geographic boundaries of the ERCOT region.

In addition, Texas RE has been authorized by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and is permitted by NERC to investigate compliance with the ERCOT protocols and operating guides, working with PUCT staff regarding any potential protocol violations.

Texas RE is independent of all users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system.
