Energy in Agriculture Program
California is an agricultural cornucopia to the nation and the world. To produce, process and store more than 200 food and fiber crops, the state's farmers consume four percent of the state's electricity. Food processors consume two percent of the electricity and five percent of the state's natural gas.
The mission of the Energy Commission's Energy in Agriculture Program is to assist the agricultural industry (food and fiber production, food processing, irrigation districts) adopt energy-efficient technologies and management practices that reduce production costs and minimize negative environmental impacts while improving economic sustainability.
