PRESIDENT SIGNS INTO LAW SENATOR COLLINS' BILL TO PROVIDE FEDERAL HEALTH BENEFITS TO U.S. EMPLOYEES AT ROOSEVELT CAMPOBELLO PARK

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, is pleased to announce that President Bush today signed into law bipartisan legislation, that she authored, which would make U.S. citizens employed by the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission eligible to obtain federal health insurance. Previously, the employees of the park have joined a small group insurance plan negotiated by the Park Commission. However, drastic premium increases have made the plan unaffordable to the park employees and their families.

“This bipartisan legislation solves a serious health-insurance problem for Maine residents who work at Roosevelt Campobello International Park,” said Senator Collins. “Previously, U.S. citizens who work at this international park are ineligible for Federal Employee Health Benefits Program coverage. My legislation resolves this problem. Full-time employees of other joint-responsibility parks on the U.S.-Canadian border, such as Glacier National Park, are already eligible for coverage under the federal program. This is a matter of equal treatment as well as compassion.”
