Bayh, Bunning, Stabenow Urge Administration to Take Action Against Currency Manipulation

Practice Provides Subsidies to Foreign Goods, Hurts American Businesses and Workers

Washington —U.S. Senators Evan Bayh (D-IN), Jim Bunning (R-KY), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today sent the following letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson urging the administration to hold countries that manipulate their currencies accountable. The administration was required by law to submit a report by April 24, 2008 revealing critical information regarding countries manipulating their currency to gain an unfair advantage. Currency manipulation is the practice by which foreign governments achieve unfair advantage by artificially lowering their currency values in order to sell goods at lower prices in the United States. American businesses and workers continue to suffer from this continuing practice.
