1/12/07: CT Officials Object to Broadwater Proposal

During public comment period, officials send letter to FERC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Connecticut’s Congressional delegation today declared their opposition to the proposed Broadwater Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Storage and Regasification Facility in Long Island Sound.  The proposed LNG facility is roughly the size of the Queen Mary II and will sit approximately 10 miles from the Connecticut shoreline.


12/15/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Grant for Wilton Fire Department

Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today that the Wilton Fire Department will receive $105,877 in grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for operations and safety programs.

          

“While Wilton’s firefighters have an abundance of honor and bravery, they do not have nearly enough funding,” said Dodd.  “I am pleased that, with this grant, the community will be able to continue to rely on their responsible, well-trained firefighters to protect them from danger.”           


10/25/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce more than $30 Million for Connecticut Urban Housing Initiatives

WASHINGTON- Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today the allocation of $33,208,785 in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for new housing initiatives in the State of Connecticut.  The money is being awarded through the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG), HOME, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), and the American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) to help some of Connecticut’s neediest residents. 

10/06/06: Stamford to Receive More Than $1,750,000 for Affordable Housing and Public Services

WASHINGTON- Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that Stamford will receive $1.75 million from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs to aid community development and affordable housing programs for low-income residents in the city.

“Connecticut's neediest residents deserve a roof over their heads, not a ceiling over their dreams,” Dodd said. “This assistance will not only help build better, more affordable homes, but will provide the support these families need as they pursue home ownership - and, ultimately, a brighter future.”

10/04/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Grants for Connecticut Fire Departments

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that six Connecticut fire departments will receive $362,427 in federal funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Repose (SAFER) programs, which are administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 

9/29/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Appropriations for Connecticut's Defense, Submarine Industry

WASHINGTON – The Senate today approved the 2007 Defense Appropriations Conference Report, which has already been approved by the House of Representatives and is expected to be signed by the President.  Due to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT), the bill supports Connecticut’s defense industry, particularly in the critical areas of submarine research and technology.  In addition to boosting Connecticut’s economy, the funding will help ensure that U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are outfitted with the resources they need to perform their missions. 


9/08/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More than $275K in School Safety Measures

Washington – Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that four cities and towns in Connecticut will receive help from the federal government to assist local law enforcement agencies with school safety measures. The grants, totaling $278,028 and distributed to the towns of Clinton and Granby and the cities of Hartford and Stamford, are disbursed by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing (COPS).

In part due to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT), the bill will help boost the Connecticut economy and ensure that U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are outfitted with the quality resources they need to perform their missions.


7/21/06: Dodd, Lieberman Secure More Than $18 Million for State Transportation, Urban Development Projects

Washington – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) successfully secured more than $18 million for Connecticut's transportation and urban development needs, they announced today.  These resources, which were included in the Senate's Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, will go towards initiatives across the state aimed at reducing traffic congestion, promoting alternative modes of transportation, increasing transportation safety, increasing homeownership, fighting urban blight, and supporting youth development. The bill was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this week.
