Kerry to Join Satellite Conference with HUD Secretary Cuomo
Mayor Menino Will Discuss Boston Empowerment Zone Designation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator John F. Kerry(D-MA) today will join US Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Andrew Cuomo and Boston Mayor Menino by satellite to discuss the designation of a portion of Boston as a HUD Empowerment Zone. Kerry joined Vice President Al Gore this morning at a White House announcement of the empowerment zones.

Under this HUD program Boston will receive close to $100 million in funds to create jobs, build homes, and fund existing programs for health care and job training.
Kerry is a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Housing Opportunity and Community Development.
