From the Office of Senator Kerry

STATEMENT OF SENATOR JOHN KERRY

REGARDING: SERGEANT JUSTIN W. GARVEY

Monday, July 21, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Army today announced that, Sergeant Justin W. Garvey, a Soldier with family living in Townsend, Massachusetts, has died in service to our Nation in Iraq. Senator John Kerry issued the following statement:

“Teresa and I extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sergeant Justin Garvey. They are in our thoughts and prayers.

“This brave young man was willing to go thousands of miles from home to fight for the notion that in the final measurement, other human beings’ security was connected to his own. And while the sorrow felt by his family is overwhelming, it is my hope that they can take solace in the fact that in making the ultimate sacrifice, their son has done so in the defense of something bigger than any individual and that all who wear the uniform are willing to defend with life itself.”
