SENATOR THAD COCHRAN (R-MS) COMMENTS ON THE PRESIDENT'S JOINT ADDRESS TO CONGRESS

"I was very pleased to see the President say that education is his number one priority. I think it is important that we do all that we can to improve our schools. Of course there are other things that have to be done too, and he points those out. We have to approve changes in Medicare. We have to improve that system. We have to protect Social Security, and he intends to support efforts to do that. I'm also glad he mentioned national defense. It has to be modernized to deal with the problems that we see in this changing world environment. It's become more dangerous in many aspects, and we have to do things that have to be done in order to protect our nation's safety and security and improve the lives of those who choose to serve in the military. That's very important as well. So, I think he's off to a good start. I think he's got an agenda that we can support, and that we should support here in the Senate. I intend to do everything I can to help him achieve these goals."
