Press Release of Senator Feingold

Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on International Education Week

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

"During International Education Week we recognize the important role international education and exchange programs can have in helping the world understand who we are as Americans. These programs give Americans the opportunity to not only enrich their own lives, but also build lasting relationships that foster greater understanding between different parts of the world and improve our image abroad. Whether they are studying abroad or hosting foreign exchange students here at home, our best diplomats are often these private citizens who expand their global horizons through international education.

"Wisconsin, which leads the nation in the percentage of students who study abroad, also has a strong tradition of reaching out to foreign students. This provides an opportunity to forge human bonds and support common aspirations that strengthen the values and security of our country. Today I commend participants of international education and exchange programs, and encourage all Americans to recognize, support, and become engaged in such programs throughout the year."
