Lantana depressa Lantana depressa is endemic to southern Florida pine rocklands. Historically, the unique flora of Florida pine rocklands has been maintained by periodic, naturally-occurring forest fires that prevent succession of the pine rockland plant community to hardwood forest. Decades of development and fire suppression in and around pine rockland habitats have threatened the survival of many populations of endemic and rare plant species, including Lantana depressa. Currently, efforts are being made to protect remaining pine rockland habitat and to study the effects of periodic controlled burning on threatened plant populations in pine rocklands. |
