                               2006 Guardian Award

Legislator honored for his work to combat substance abuse around the country

                        WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 21 – The Partnership for Drug-Free America® awarded Senator Chuck Grassley with the 2006 Guardian Award at a ceremony held this week in the United States Capitol. The Guardian Award is given in recognition and appreciation of leadership on substance abuse issues. The award was presented by Partnership CEO Stephen J. Pasierb on behalf of the thousands of volunteers throughout the nation who comprise the Partnership and its affiliates, including the Partnership for a Drug-Free Iowa.

“We presented the 2006 Guardian Award today to a dedicated legislator who remains committed to the critical issues of drug education, prevention and treatment,” said Pasierb. “In this session of Congress alone, Senator Grassley has worked to limit the availability of the chemicals and equipment used to manufacture methamphetamine; reauthorize the ‘Drug Czar’s’ office; protect children affected by methamphetamine; support community coalitions nationwide; and keep illicit drugs from our young people.”

“With the country burdened with threats of terrorism, Senator Grassley has not lost sight of the threats that are closest to home. His dedication to helping children live healthy, drug-free lives is an inspiration and we are glad that he is on our side,” Pasierb added.
