(WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced Monday that North Dakota’s counties and local jurisdictions have been awarded $551,075 to boost local infrastructure projects as part of the economic stimulus bill approved by Congress earlier this year.

The funding, which comes through the federal Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program, will be used to support emergency response services, public schools, and road construction and maintenance. The funding comes in addition to $907,749 that was directed to North Dakota earlier this year.

“This funding will help give a boost to our efforts to improve North Dakota’s roads, schools and other infrastructure,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “North Dakota’s economy has remained strong through the current economic crisis, but we need to continue investing in our infrastructure. Doing so will open doors to help us grow our economy and bring jobs to our rural areas.”

The funding was authorized by the Emergency Economic Stimulus Stabilization Act, which was approved by Congress earlier this year.
