SENATOR COLLINS SUPPORTS “PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION WEEK”
Federal, State, and Local Government Employees honored May 2nd through 8th

Washington, DC – Senator Susan Collins introduced a resolution with a bipartisan group of Senators to honor the nation's public servants as part of Public Service Recognition Week, May 2 -5. The Senate unanimously passed this resolution, cosponsored by Collins, expressing the sense of the Senate that public servants should be commended for their dedication and continued service.

“It is important that we recognize the more than 18,000,000 individuals in public service in cities, counties, and states across America who remain committed to serving our nation each day,” Senator Collins said. “I want to personally thank all of these professionals who contribute to the general welfare of the United States, including postal carriers, librarians, teachers, public health providers, and our nation’s first responders.”

This year’s theme is Celebrating Government Workers Nationwide to highlight the important work civil servants perform throughout the nation. Senator Collins was an original cosponsor of the legislation, which was also backed by Senators Daniel Akaka (D-HI), George Voinovich (R-OH), Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), Norm Coleman (R-MN), Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Coburn (R-OK), and Tom Carper (D-DE).
