"Hawaii" at the USBG
Now under construction! The Oasis in the Conservatory’s southeast corner is becoming "Hawaii." It will feature many of the rare and endangered plants from our 50th state. This area and the adjacent rooms – the Garden Primeval and World Deserts – will be closed to the public during the transformation. Completion of construction is expected by November 22. BOATING WITH CHIHULY Visitors to the new National Garden will see a bright new addition to one of the water regions of the garden. Noted glass sculptor Dale Chihuly has an exhibit that will be featured over the next few months. + Learn More
A PEPPER FOR EVERY POT A new exhibit cosponsored by USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has opened at the U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG). Featuring colorful pepper plants grown by USBG horticulturists and the research work of ARS’ laboratories in Beltsville, MD, A Pepper for Every Pot will remain on display in the Conservatory’s Plant Exploration room through November 12. + Learn More (PDF)
SUMMER EXHIBITS & PROGRAMS Join us this summer for some exciting new exhibits and programs. In one day, you can visit 20 gardens from across the United States in Celebrating America's Public Gardens. Attend family programs, lectures and demonstrations in our Conservatory. Wander through the National Garden, open until 7 PM through September 30th. Enjoy air-conditioning in the West Orangerie while you gaze at the photographs of Amy Lamb. Or rest your feet in one of our rockers in Bartholdi Park.
RETURN OF THE TITAN
In June 2007, a titan arum plant (aka the "Corpse Plant") began to bud. On June 25, the 57-inch tall plant was brought to the U.S. Botanic Garden for display. Staff and visitors alike speculated as to when this titan arum would be in full bloom and when the “corpse-like” smell it emits would become apparent. + Learn More
