Bennett Calls Legacy Parkway a Transportation Milestone

WASHINGTON, D.C. Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) congratulated the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), state officials, construction and engineering crews, and local community members today on the completion of the Legacy Parkway, a four-lane, 14-mile highway in south Davis County.

“The Legacy Parkway is a transportation milestone for the state of Utah,” said Bennett. “This much anticipated project will not only provide an alternate route for commuters and relieve congestion on I-15, but it also will offer a nature preserve with extensive trails for walking, running and bicycling. I commend Governor Huntsman, the state legislature and UDOT for their tireless efforts to complete this parkway project to meet the needs of Utah’s growing population.”

Construction of the Legacy Parkway, which is the first element of the Legacy Highway stretching from Brigham City to Nephi, officially began in January 2001. The Legacy Parkway Project was designed as a 14-mile stretch of four-lane highway to provide an alternate roadway for northern Utah commuters between Salt Lake City and Kaysville. UDOT projects the Legacy Parkway will reduce congestion on I-15 by 30 percent during rush hour. The project includes the Legacy Nature Preserve, approximately 2,200 acres of protected wetlands and extensive foot and bike trails, which will help protect the Great Salt Lake ecosystem.

Today’s official grand opening is a month before the anticipated opening date.
