still deeply esoteric stuff, but at least it worked live finally, with an additional 20 GB of stuff moved to an external drive temporarily. |
finally nailed that problem by using hfsdebug to defrag the most fragmented files (by copying them back and forth) and the -0 option |

started with 40 GB free - now with 90 GB - still no go. and no meaningful error other than no space left on device... jippie. |
very annoyed by diskutil not being able to resize my main partition to make space for 25GB although 90GB are free... yay... |
