got the mysql issue resolved. turns out you have to restart mysql after manually deleting .frm files. thanks to everyone who helped!
need some mysql help. i can add a new tbl to my local mysql w/o any probs. but when i restart mysql that table "doesn't exist". any ideas?

@alabut good find! i could certainly build this myself, but my bigger objective is just to experiment w/ out-sourcing & learn how it works.
